28th SEPT – 1st OCT
CODA: THE LAST WORKS
Following the 2015 Festival celebrating the tenderness, energy and daring of musical Youth, we fast-forward to the end of our composers’ lives. In 2016 OCMF’s music and spirit will resound with the wisdom of Age – with the summing-up of a lifetime’s experience in magnum opuses.
We will hear a composer like Beethoven pushing urgently into the future, unconstrained by his listeners’ expectations; composers refusing to grow old, like Janacek – 73 going on 17 – burning with his unique voice and mad infatuation; and other great musicians facing the ultimate mystery of mortality and finding courage, consolation and hope…. opening windows through their vision on so many levels for following generations.
Join us to share in a magnificent late harvest and soulful musical autumn, full of the depth and insight of mature genius and final thoughts. Come and hear some of the greatest music ever written!
