In a fascinating experiment our musicians will bring Beethoven’s last musical sketches to life through improvisation, using their expert knowledge of Beethoven’s style and spirit. In his last work, Shostakovich confronts death at first angrily, then makes his peace (via memories of Beethoven’s Moonlight sonata). And Gabriel Fauré’s sublime trio mixes radiant calm with an exhilarating salute to life.
