Reto Bieri – Clarinet

Reto Bieri was born in Zug, Switzerland, and grew up under the influence of Swiss folk music, before going on to study at New York’s Juilliard School. Besides the standard repertoire for his own instrument, he is especially interested in contemporary music and collaboration with contemporary composers forms an important part of his work.

During past seasons, he appeared at several festivals and played with orchestras like the Tchaikowsky Sinfonieorchester, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra or Sinfonieorchester Basel.

Among his chamber music partners are Heinz Holliger, Gidon Kremer, Zoltan Koscis, Alexander Lonquich, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sol Gabetta, Ilya Gringolts, Pekka Kuusisto, Nicolas Altstaedt and Fazil Say, as well as several string quartets as the Quatuor Ardeo (Paris), Bennewitz Quarett (Prague), Borusan Quartett (Istanbul), Carmina Quartett (Zurich), Quarteto Casals (Barcelona).

Since 2013 Reto Bieri has been the artistic director of the DAVOS Festival in Switzerland
